Teresa is well known to New Leaf Market shoppers, where the Bonny Doon Garden Company floral shop is located. Her flowers have delighted many locals. If you have ever been fortunate enough to receive one of her floral creations, you will know the joy and goosebumps you get when she delivers one to your door.
Teresa, along with her husband Nezih and family, run the Castle House, a most magical home and garden venue in Bonny Doon, CA. The gardens are glorious - I love them. Veranda Magazine is coming this month to shoot a story, that is how special they are.

I have had the great pleasure of working with Teresa on special projects for the old Annieglass store and was instantly gobsmacked with her talent. I remember the first time she made something for a special event at the store and it was breathtaking- a dramatic arrangement of flowers nearly 4 feet tall with long willows individually tied with tiny orchids that reached to every end of the table and enhanced the Annieglass display there tremendously. Talent like that just blew me away and I dreamed up projects that would feature her work, I found her skill so inspiring.
Our best collaborations were for the Mother’s Day weekend event held at Filoli in San Mateo, Ca. from 2010 through 2013. No one put together such ingenious combinations and she was competing with the Bay Area’s best. We would go up to Filoli in February (daffodil season) to see where our table for designing would be located. All I did was set out the Annieglass- Teresa did everything that mattered- combining the most original elements to make unique and glorious arrangements and tablescapes.
My best memory is carrying my giant blue clamshell sculpture into Filoli among competitors carrying in normal size vases and being asked: “What are you going to do with that?” In a few minutes, Teresa would make it into a fantasy world with her imagination and skill. I wish I had more photos of our work together, but buy The Posy Book for real inspiration!

It is my great pleasure to host Teresa on June 22, 2019. Her labor of love is The Posy Book: Garden-Inspired Bouquets That Tell a Story, it makes a great gift for a girlfriend or a housewarming gift. And you can get some great tips from her too. Please join us in celebrating her new book!
P.S. Her name is pronounced exactly as it spells Sab-an-ka-ya
About The Posy Book:
Inspired by the Victorian-era language of flowers, a posy is a small, round bouquet of flowers, herbs, and plants meant to convey a message, such as dahlias for gratitude, sunflowers for adoration, or thyme for bravery. These floral poems have become Teresa Sabankaya's signature. Brides want them for their weddings, but a posy is a lovely gift any time of year, and one that readers can easily put together from their garden or with blooms from their local florist. In The Posy Book, Sabankaya shares step-by-step instructions, floral recipes for more than 20 posies, and ideas for seasonal variations. A modern floral dictionary, with 12 original paintings by celebrated illustrator Maryjo Koch, will help readers craft their own posies filled with personal meaning.
