Do register at least six months before your event date. This gives your guests ample time to choose from your list for engagement party gifts, wedding shower presents and of course, the big day.
Don’t register during your lunch hour (too short!). Plan a day around wedding registering to allow plenty of time to decide what you want your wedding gifts to (actually) be.
Do sit down with your fiancé and talk about your likes and dislikes, and how you envision yourselves entertaining and enjoying daily meals. Think about future holidays and family get-togethers, about casual gatherings with friends and dressed-up cocktail parties, and what you want to sit down to on the daily whether it’s over farmer’s market finds, family-made meals or take-out after a long day.
Do call ahead for an appointment with the bridal registrar. Even if the small local boutique you are registering with doesn’t have a registry department, they will appreciate the heads up to better assist you when you arrive.
Don’t limit your wish list. Go ahead and register for six—even eight!—of the dinner plates you really want…plus the soup bowls and side plates to match. Add the limited edition sculptural piece you envision in your future living room, or the large serving pieces you know will be perfect for everything from holiday feasts to weekday dinners. It’s called a wish list for a reason, so go ahead...wish!
Do keep of the gifts you have received and despite computerized tracking and printouts of gifts, mistakes can and do happen. Keep track of what you receive from whom as well as what thank you notes you sent.
