A Blue & Green Christmas by Mrs Southern Social

We are so excited to share this blue and green Christmas table by Mary of Mrs. Southern Social! She is all about Southern hospitality and tradition with a twist. A Nashville native who loves entertaining at home.

Here is a repost from MrsSouthernSocial.com using her Annieglass!

There’s something extra sweet about Christmas this year because it’s our first holiday season in the new house. When designing this table, I wanted to keep things a bit modern and sleek to complement the transitional décor of our home, but also incorporate the more traditional pieces that make a holiday table extra special (china, crystal, silver). I’m thrilled with how it all came together and can’t wait to dive into all of the details.

One of the things I love about this table is the palette. The greens, blues, and subtle metallics make it fabulous inspiration for anything from Christmas to Hanukkah to New Year’s, and it would work beautifully (sans wreaths) for spring and summer celebrations, as well. Obviously I adore blue, but was eager to find something other than a ginger jar motif to help set the tone for this vignette. (Disclaimer: OF COURSE I live for a ginger jar, but I’ve designed several tables around that pattern before so I wanted to find something new.) Enter Pomegranate Inc. and find this fabulous table runner and napkins.

Let’s chat about these wonderful chargers from Annieglass. This is a fantastic tabletop brand based in California, and all of their pieces are handcrafted in their Monterey Bay studio. They offer several collections with different themes, but their signature look is such that you can mix and match everything. For this table I used the Ruffle Buffet Plate in gold to coordinate with my china (they also come in a beautiful silver). The metallic adds an elegant pop of color, and I love that you can also use these as dinner plates instead of chargers – double duty! I arranged my colorful arugula salad on the Martini Tray from the Edgey Collection. The rusticated detail is unique and really beautiful. All of these pieces coordinate so nicely with my Herend collection, but they’d also work beautifully with modern décor. The versatility is fabulous.

Y’all might remember Pomegranate from my Thanksgiving table; they specialize in block print table linens and décor. These linens are part of the Melograno Vine Wedgewood collection and I’m obsessed. My dining room table is a 72” round, which is quite large, and I think the bold color and pattern are great to take up some of that space (a good trick to keep in mind if you have an enormous table like I do). I love the interplay of a block print with china, crystal, and silver – it’s a modern approach and breathes some new life into more formal pieces. I definitely encourage y’all to check out the Pomegranate website; they have so many fabulous linens for holiday that you can easily repurpose throughout the year. Remember that things don’t have to have an explicitly Christmas theme to make a festive table!

Once I had the linens nailed down, I set about building my place settings. I try to use my beautiful wedding china whenever I can, and Christmas is the perfect excuse to whip out those special pieces. My pattern is Herend Chinese Bouquet Blue and I used some of my serving pieces and dessert plates for this table. Since the table linens are bold, I didn’t want to overdo things by bringing in a second, competing china pattern. The gradation in color between the dinner and dessert plates is interest enough.

I also borrowed these darling bud vases. It’s fun to include an extra special touch at each place setting, especially during the holidays. At $65 each, they make for an elaborate party favor, but you can easily replicate this idea with another pretty vase from Target, Pottery Barn, etc. Of course, if you’re keeping your celebration small and feeling extra generous, it’d be quite a hit to send everyone home with an uber special “stocking stuffer” from Herend! Keep these in mind as chic hostess gifts for a special event or a birthday happy for the gal who has everything.

To round out each place setting, I used a trio of glasses to help reinforce the green. You might recognize these dot glasses from earlier this fall (the Gatsby Tumbler from Home with Hechart). Here I used them as water glasses, paired with green wine glasses from Williams Sonoma that I snagged on major sale. The crystal stemware was my grandmother’s – so special. An idea I got from Ina Garten (#queen) is to mix pretty glassware in a similar color, and I think it’s a great way to add another layer of interest to your holiday table. I put out three glasses because I honestly find that a lot of people want to start with white wine then switch to red, or they start with a scotch but then change to wine. Better to have a few glasses out and ready instead of scrambling to grab new ones during dinner.

I’m thrilled to give a massive shout-out to Christin at Mint Tulip for these gorgeous florals. I’m fortunate to have some beautiful, heirloom silver pieces from my family, and I wanted those to take center stage along with some pretty flowers. Christin struck the perfect balance with a massive bunch of white lisianthus that is so impactful yet also allows the candelabras to shine. You absolutely cannot go wrong with white blooms, especially en masse! The white palette also heightens the impact of my other décor because there’s not a competing riot of color in the middle of the table.

Last but not least, I want to touch on these darling chair wreaths. Since my chairs are fairly large and very neutral, I wanted to add some colorful detail that coordinated with the table. I found faux boxwood wreaths and ribbon that matched my napkins, and simply hung the wreaths on each chair back. Here’s a tip: I adhered the ribbon to the chairs with straight pints. They’re so tiny you can’t even see them. Of course, if you don’t have fabric chairs, you can tie the ribbon on and secure with a pretty bow.

Thanksgiving is less than a week away, so the holidays are officially upon us. I hope that the tables I shared this week provide some happy inspiration for your own celebrations, however and wherever you’re gathering. It’s a strange year to say the least, but I think that focusing on bringing some seasonal beauty into our homes over the next month will help everyone embrace the holiday spirit. I’m really excited about the festive content that’s still to come on Mrs. Southern Social, and am grateful as always for your kindness and support. Happy holidays, y’all!
